“The Foundations of Said Nursi's Theory of Quranic Nazam: An Analytical Study”

Dr. Muhammad Zakir Hashmi; Prof. Dr. Humayun Abbas Shams
Abstract: Bediuzzaman Said Nursi articulated his concept of Quranic Coherence (Nazm al-Qur’an) and applied it to various Quranic verses in Isharat al-I‘jaz fi Mazan al-I‘jaz. This article examines the foundational principles of his theory of Quranic Coherence and analyses whether the formulation and derivation of his ideas rest on sound scholarly sources or rely on excessive interpretive effort. The study also evaluates whether the proponents of Quranic Coherence in general possess solid methodological foundations. Several scholars who have written on Quranic Coherence have shown a tendency toward interpretive deviation. This research investigates whether Nursi also exhibited any inclination toward such deviation. Additionally, many scholars working in this field have gone beyond traditional sources and methods. Therefore, this study further explores what constitutes these traditional sources and whether Nursi remained within their bounds or transcended them. The following findings emerged from the analysis.
Keywords: Knowledge of human nature, Human guidance, Literature, Direction.
